The Victorian Era of the late 1800’s and the early 1900’s was the origin of “Father Christmas” with his richly embroidered clothing and toys popular to the time. The Victorian Father Christmas follows in this tradition of elaborate embellishment with his ornate coat trimmed in rich golden fur. He carries a basketful of gifts on his back and a knapsack filled with shiny red apples, a popular Victorian treat. His other hand holds gold netting filled with balls and a favorite Victorian toy, a puppet clown. In the Victorian era, children were to be proper, disciplined little adults. However, the gleam in the eyes of Victorian Father Christmas can’t be denied.
