Description
The German melody, “O’ Tannenbaum” or “Oh Christmas Tree” has been a traditional Christmas favorite for decades. The words tell of the beautiful evergreen branches and how their beauty is evident in all seasons. Ernst Anschulz, a Leipzig organist, wrote this familiar version in 1824 although the melody is an old folk lure tune that can be dated back to the 16th century.
In true German fashion, Santa brings the Christmas tree on Christmas Eve while the children are asleep in their beds. He decorates teh little tree with stars and glass balls while the village slumbers below. Upon awakening, the children will find the tree fully decorated with gifts tucked underneath it’s branches.
“O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree,
Your branches green delight u.
They’re green when summer days are bright:
They’re green when winter snow is white.
O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree,
Your branches green delight us.”
“O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree,
You give us so much pleasure!
How oft at Christmas tide the sight,
O green fir tree, gives us delight!
O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree.”
