A visit to Bavaria is filled with old world customs and events that are a delight to the senses! As Christmas draws near, magnificent markets are set up that display the many goods that are created by Bavarian craftsmen– ornaments, bells, wood carvings, teddy bears and an array of delicious Bavarian treats are for sale. Decorated cookies, tortes and pastries of all kinds tempt the palate. Marionette performances retell fairytales and the Christmas story. St. Nikolaus, the Bavarian Santa, sometimes makes a stop at the elaborate Holiday markets, before he begins his journey on Christmas Eve. From it’s rich forests to its gifted craftsmen, Bavaria is truly a magical place, and it is clear that our gift-laden Bavarian Santa did, indeed, visit the Christkindlmarkte Christmas Markets, as he begins his rounds!
