Description
Santa’s skis represent the rich history of Norway and the sport of skiing. Modern skiing was invented by the Norwegians in a small village called Morgedal by Sondre Nordheim. Most Norwegians are of pure Viking stock, and like their ancestors love adventures, exploring, sports and competition. Two of Santa’s toys, the Viking doll and ship, represent a big part of Norway’s history and commerce today. It was from Norway’s coast that the Vikings, skilled sailors, built a vast maritime trading network. They ventured across the Atlantic Ocean to Iceland, later becoming the first Europeans to Greenland and North America toward the end of the 10th century. The lure of the sea has remained strong to this day.
