Description

Santa likes to design and make his own boots. First he makes a form of his foot out of a wooden block. This carved form is called a last. The sole and heel are made of several layers of leather and the upper is made of dyed and embellished leathers. Many of his boots have cuffs of fur or leather and decorative tassels or bells. In some regions, including the North Pole, Santa wears a shoe that is more like a moccasin, made of reindeer hide and lined with fur and grass to keep his feet extra warm and dry. While Santa likes to make his boots, he’s even happier when, at Christmastime, he travels to every country putting fruit, nuts and candies into the boots and shoes that children have left out for him to fill. This ancient tradition goes back hundreds of years and the joy it creates in the hearts of children is sure to guarantee that it will continue for many generations to come. What will you find in your shoes this year?
